No need to be alone on Christmas Day–Thank you Bayshore Home Health & Franklin Horner for the Home Alone Christmas Dinner

December 25, 2013 in Community, Events |

As I sit down to eat Christmas dinner with family in Westfield New Jersey, I wanted to reflect on those who are isolated and alone at this time of year and to say a special thank you to Jackie Hickey RN of Bayshore Home Health, the Franklin Horner Community Centre, the many other community agencies, volunteers and corporate sponsors who will be hosting the annual Alone Christmas Dinner today at the Franklin Horner Community Centre.

This event first started in December 2011 and continues to provide a lovely turkey dinner for isolated and lonely seniors.  Many of the community agencies volunteer their time or provide food or holiday baskets for the seniors.  Last year Mosaic provided the turkeys and this year provided a gift basket as a prize.

Franklin Horner is a wonderful place and provides programs for all ages from the very young to the elderly for more information on their programs visit www.franklinhorner.org.

Below is an excerpt the 2011 blog on the event written by Jackie Hickey RN of Bayshore Home Health.

Sometimes we forget what it’s like to walk in the shoes of others; Christmastime reminds us

As you sat down to Christmas dinner surrounded by loved ones and friends, did you ever stop to think of those who may not have had the chance to enjoy the festive season? December 25 can be one of the loneliest days of the year for some people. With all the hustle and bustle, we tend to forget about the strangers we pass in the street who can’t share in the joy of togetherness at this time of year.
